Lava flow through the jungle.
This was the eruption which happened on the night of 01-02 Jan 2010, from a fissure extending from the sister volcano Nyamuragira located to the North of Niaragongo.The lava however did not reach the town this time, unlike the one in 2002.

Here I am at a place called Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is a troubled zone from the rebels' side for which we are here as part of the UN Peace Keeping Force. The nature too does not spare this town as it frequently is threatened by lava flow from Mt. Nyaracongo which is just 16km as the crow flies from where we stay.This town is on the Northern edge of lake Kivu and there is an impending threat from the water front too, in the form of what is called as "Lake Overturn". More about this later,it's time to see some good snaps of this area.
